MATHEMATICS ASSESSMENT The mathematics assessment is to be completed by all students enrolled in MTH 1105 or MTH1154. That means all students entering these programs in September 2010:
For many students, the first year of college is a major change. And the challenge of being successful in your studies in that first year is a big one. In many college programs, mathematics is a common denominator for many courses. Being successful in the program you chose will in large part be due to being a student who does well at mathematics. We at Lambton College are interested in student success. To help you get there, Lambton College provides a number of services. And one of them is this assessment in mathematics. Notice that this is NOT something to find out if you qualify to get into your chosen program. You are already in the program and ready to roll in September. No matter what your results are, you will NOT be required to take an extra semester. And you will NOT be charged more tuition based on your test results. The purpose of this mathematics assessment is to "assess" or test your knowledge in various areas of mathematics, such as computation (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing), algebra, and geometry. The test is computer based and is done without a calculator. Your score will tell us what areas you need help with. And then we can work with you to get better at those areas. For students who "fail" the assessment, an extra one hour per week class will be assigned to your math course. It will help you review the mathematics topics covered in the assessment. You will be that much better prepared to succeed in your program. "Failing" means a score of less than 50% for MTIM students and less than 60% for all the rest. For students "passing" the assessment, the extra hour per week class will be optional. See the Math Lab page for more information. We wish you well in your upcoming year at Lambton College! |
